Орион Фиванский – грамматик V в.

Работа посвящена реконструкции основных событий биографии и анализу сочинений ранневизантийского интеллектуала – грамматика Ориона Фиванского (ок. 400–460 гг.). На основании имеющихся источников, прежде всего Суды, Марина («Жизнь Прокла»), «Хилиад» Иоанна Цеца, а также рукописей сочинений самого Ориона, делается ряд выводов. Прежде всего, вопреки гиперкритицизму Роберта Кастера, показывается возможность и даже вероятность карьерного пути Ориона по маршруту Александрия – Афины – Константинополь – Кесария Палестинская. Наиболее важными обстоятельствами жизни Ориона было то, что он одно время был учителем Прокла, будущего великого неоплатоника, а также учителем Афинаиды, впоследствии императрицы Евдокии. Попутно рассматривается вопрос об Орионе – ученике Прокопия Газского; доказывается, что это другой, более поздний Орион. В целом данная работа является одной из первых в отечественной исторической науке, которая посвящена грамматикам – представителям огромного мира учителей позднеантичного (ранневизантийского) времени, благодаря неустанной работе которых империя в данный период поддерживала прежний уровень почти полной грамотности.
