Russia in the Post-Soviet Space: The Possibilities of Ensuring National Security on the Example of Existing Integration Associations

Abstract

In the context of a turbulent international political environment, it is necessary to consider the tools of state counteraction to various types of threats. In this study, the authors pay special attention to integration associations, focusing on the examples of the CSTO, the EAEU and the USRB. The divergent nature of these organizations, when considered collectively, forms a comprehensive approach to ensuring national security. The key purpose of the study is to assess the effectiveness and prospects of these organizations as guarantors of the security of the Russian Federation in the post-Soviet space from external threats. The authors note that in the current context, the development of integration initiatives is complicated, among other things, by the escalation of the military‑political situation in the post‑Soviet space. The new geopolitical reality dictates the rules and requires a revision of both theoretical approaches to organizing the activities of integration systems and the transformation of practical approaches. As part of the study, the authors come to conclusions about the prospects for deepening and expanding existing integration systems, as well as putting forward a thesis about their possible mutual penetration.
