History of Alexandria in Early Byzantine Times in the Works of Zecharias of Mytilene

The article is devoted to the study of the specifics of the reflection of the history of Alexandria in the early Byzantine period in the works of Zechariah Rhetor (Scholastic) of Mytilene. Zakaria's legacy includes seven works of different genres that form a single corpus. This author is one of the most famous representatives of the Ghaz Christian school of the late 5th – 1st half. VI centuries. The history of Alexandria is most vividly reflected in the works of Zachariah: the Christian polemical work in the form of an ancient dialogue «Ammonius», the pamphlet «Life of Severus», «Church History». The history of Alexandria in Early Byzantine times is of particular interest for studying the picture of regional centers existence in the context of significant changes that took place in state development and social life. Zechariah's works represent a unique synthesis of late antique sophistry, philosophy and the anti-Chalcedonian Christian tradition. A detailed study of the history of the city requires a careful reading of Zechariah's works, since his interpretation of the events and personalities of «Alexandrian history» is unique.
