Abstract

The subject of the research is the foreign policy of the United States of America in the Central Asian region at the beginning of the 21st century. The author examines in detail such aspects as the factors of American policy activation in the Central Asian direction, the importance of Central Asia in US foreign policy at the beginning of the 21st century and the diplomatic line of US foreign policy in Central Asia. A new look on the role and importance of Central Asia was enshrined in the fundamental document in the context of determining the direction of the American foreign policy the US National Security Strategy. The paper asserted that Central Asia is the focus of "challenges and opportunities" for America in the new century. The former included transnational terrorism, the radicalization of Islam and drug trafficking. The second is the presence in the region of large (albeit unproven) hydrocarbon reserves. At the same time, the “target concept” of the political line being implemented in Central Asia has changed, and got the name of the “aggressive realism”.
