Abstract

The article raises a question of interpretations of the marriage reform that took place in the 5th century BC and was undertaken by the leaders of the province of Judеа, Ezra and Nehemiah. The lack of research on this topic in the Russian-language literature prompted the author of the article to present a historiographical overview of existing views and give a brief analysis of the genesis of the development of these ideas in the scientific world. The author of the article tried to trace the development of the views of scientists on these reforms and present the main approaches to solving the problem. Harsh methods in the implementation of reforms served to establish self-identification during the difficult period of repatriation, but there were also softer approaches. A study of sources does not allow us to speak at the moment about a complete understanding of the motives and reasons for the prohibition of mixed marriages and a fairly harsh approach to those guilty of exogamy. The article contains three main sections: Problem, Attempts to solve, Results and conclusions.
