Departmental Correspondence of the Treasuries of the Russian Empire in the 18th Century as a Reflection of Political Events in the Country

The activities of financial authorities have always attracted public attention and caused a wide response, as they affect the most important aspects of society. The article analyzes the departmental correspondence

of the treasuries of the Russian Empire dating back to the 18th century. This documentation is a valuable source for studying the political processes that took place in the State during the period under study. The treasuries, being the main financial institutions in the regions, played an important role in managing the Empire's economic resources. Their activities were closely linked to government policy, which is reflected in the content and nature of their correspondence. The study uses documents from the State Archive of the Kursk region. The historical context of one of the largest popular uprisings in the history of the Russian Empire, the Peasant War of 1773-1775 led by Yemelyan Pugachev, is presented in specific documents from the Kursk Treasury Fund. Special attention is paid to the comprehensive measures taken by the authorities in response to this historic event, as well as their reflection in the documentation of treasury institutions of the Russian Empire. The above texts of archival documents preserved in the fund of the Kursk State Chamber, make it possible to trace not only the reaction of the authorities to the uprising itself, but also the government's efforts to normalize the future lives of the country's residents.
