Abstract

The work attempts to give a systematic outline of the archaeological research of the Cypriot antiquities by Swedish archaeologists. The work of the Swedish Cyprus Expedition under the leadership of Einar Gjerstad in 1927–1931 represents one of the most successful projects of this kind, unrivaled in classical archeology both in design and execution and in the scale and intensity of the results obtained and published. The second cycle is associated with excavations in the 1940s. under the leadership of A. Furumark. Finally, since the 1970s. The third cycle of work on the Dromolaxia monument (Hala Sultan Tekke) continues. Of course, the third stage can be considered the longest, but it is focused on the study of only one monument, whereas the first Gjerstad expedition examined a large number of monuments located in the chronological range from the Bronze Age to Roman times. This article continues the earlier work on the history and archeology of the island.
