Капитолия (Capitolias) – город античного Декаполиса

В работе предпринята попытка освещения истории и исторической топографии города Капитолия в Заиорданье (Декаполис) в контексте региональной истории Восточного Средиземноморья. Следов города в доримский период почти не обнаруживается, хотя есть древневосточная основа, как и у большинства иных городов региона. Вызывает вопросы место основания, что связано с причинами основания города – он расположен слишком близко к другим центрам, возникшим ранее. Но конкретная причина этого нам не известна. В результате деятельности путешественников XIX в. стало возможным приступить к археологическим раскопкам в ХХ столетии. Несмотря на наличие современной застройки, сильно осложняющей исследования, археологам удалось открыть линию оборонительных стен, контуры планировки улиц и некоторые общественные здания. В целом Капитолия занимала важное место в мозаике городов Декаполиса и нуждается в дальнейших исследованиях в сравнительно-историческом аспекте.
