Russia – North Korea Relations at Present Stage and Their Impact on Regional and Global Security

In the 1990s, Russian foreign policy, especially in the eastern direction, experienced a very serious crisis. Therefore, it is absolutely no coincidence that today we are experiencing the so-called "Turn to the East". And this is not only a matter of confrontation with the countries of the conditional West, but also an urgent need to fill the gaps that emerged in the first post-Soviet decade. North Korea is a traditional partner and ally for our country, and the fact that we actually turned away from Pyongyang in the 1990s does not do us credit. Since 2001, our relations (with the exception of the peak of international sanctions against the DPRK in 2017-2018) have been developing on the rise. And while the pandemic somewhat slowed down economic cooperation, the special military operation gave impetus to political and military-strategic partnership and cooperation. Of course, the relations between the two countries directly affect regional security in Northeast Asia, and also become a certain marker of deep transformations at the global level.
