Towards the History of Sanctions Foreign Policy in Modern Times: The United States and its Allies against Iran

The article is devoted to the effectiveness of the sanctions policy at the present stage of history. It examines the historical foundations of sanctions policy and concludes that sanctions policy is an inseparable part of confrontation in international relations. The article is based on an analysis of historical sources, as well as the historiography of the issue. The sources were the charters of the League of Nations and the United Nations, as well as the most notable US regulations imposing sanctions on their opponents. The article analyzes the historical aspect of sanctions in the foreign policy of states. The nature of sanctions in the Ancient World, the Middle Ages, Modern and Modern times is compared. Special attention is paid to the latest period in history: the sanctions imposed by the United States and its allies against Iran. From the point of view of world law, sanctions are aimed at unarmed coercion of States to abandon their domestic or foreign policies. However, the history of sanctions shows that these countries do not seek to build their policies in accordance with the requirements of the sanctioning State and the international community.
