Abstract

The spread of a new religion of Christianity in the territory of Asia Minor had a significant impact on the state and evolution of architectural structures in Lycia. The purpose of the article is to analyze the influence of Christianity on the material culture of Lycia. Obviously, the main influence of the spread of religious cult in the field of material culture can be traced through changes in sacred architecture. It is most often expressed in the re-consecration of churches and in the construction of new, already Christian ones. As in other regions of Asia Minor and the entire Eastern Mediterranean, basilicas in cities stand out in Lycia. In addition, a number of basils are known in rural areas. The specificity of the archeology of Lycia is the large number of cities (at least 30) in a relatively small, inaccessible mountainous area. Traces of Christianization can also be seen in changes in the funeral rite and in other public buildings of the Lycian city, primarily in the bathhouses. Stadiums remained religiously neutral, theaters were generally closed. The work provides some specific examples in the field of temple architecture and public buildings of the region from individual cities.
