USA – European Union: History and Prospects of Relations

Abstract

The article examines the evolution of relations between the United States and European institutions from the beginning of the process of post-war European integration to the present day. Gradually, they acquired the character of cooperation, albeit unequal. The process of European integration contributed to strengthening the positions of the European Economic Community, and then the European Union in relation to the United States. American President Donald Trump has demonstrated his intention to undermine and even destroy the European Union. Under President J. Biden, the United States has achieved unquestioning adherence to the EU in line with Washington's course. The American economy benefits from the relocation of companies, capital and workers from Europe, which will make it easier to survive the current global economic crisis by pumping out European resources. But the United States may lose its status as the world's dominant reserve currency in the long term. Then there will be a chance for Europe to revive its economy.
