«Greeks in the land of Apollo»: displaying the process of the Dorian and Aeolian colonization of Lycia in the epigraphy, archeology and narrative sources

The article examines a complex of multi-temporal narrative evidence of the Greek tradition concerning the process of Dorian and Aeolian colonization of the eastern coast of Lycia. The author disputes the classical view of Phaselis, regarded as the only Rhodes colony in the region. The cultural and historical syncretism of the Greeks and Lycians was expressed in the influence of Greek philosophy and elements of art. Relations between the Lycians and Greek colonists were quite complicated and often ended in conflicts. As part of the study, the thesis was formulated about the existence of a zone of Greco-Lycian cultural and historical syncretism, which should be located in the area of Koridalla, Gagae and Rodiapolis. Attempts by the Dorian colonists to gain a foothold on the Lycian coast failed. Particular attention is paid to the nature and evolution of the Greco-Lycian cultural and political interactions in the designated region. It will be especially important to pay attention to the array of relatively fresh evidence of local epigraphic heritage and archeological data concerning the ethnocultural contacts of the Lycians and Pamphiles with the Greek colonists.
