Abstract

The article is concerned with the study of the origin and development of the Hebrew concepts of «holiness» based on the use of the terms qdš, qōdeš, qādôš and miqdāš in the Hebrew texts of the Books of Genesis and Exodus in their historical and cultural context. The author points out groups of timing (holidays), spatial (locations), religious and cult (rules of purity, liturgy), applied to people and animals (firstborns), things (menorah), political and legal (state, norms of law) elements. Herewith, various aspects of holiness have an internal gradation, and some of them are subject to the principle of hebdomad. Attention is also focused on the phenomenon of curse and holiness. Also for the first time, the author separately raises the problem of distribution and subsequent analysis of the qdš terminology within the framework of a documentary hypothesis, which allows us to draw a number of preliminary conclusions about what causes the use of the term in a particular occasion from the point of view of the historical situation and some other reasons.
